About Harper-Lee Overli

Harper-Lee Overli has been practicing since 2003.  Her practice focuses on corporate commercial transactions and litigation, employment law, estate litigation, insurance and insurance litigation, building and development, administrative law, municipal law, bankruptcy and insolvency, financial and recovery services, and aboriginal law, including land claims litigation.

Harper-Lee has considerable court experience, having appeared before the Alberta Court of Justice – Civil Division, the Alberta Court of Justice – Criminal Division, the Alberta Court of King’s Bench – Civil Division, the Alberta Court of King’s Bench – Bankruptcy Division, and the Alberta Court of Appeal, and has appeared before the Land and Property Rights Tribunal. In addition to having her own practice, Harper-Lee has worked both in-house and in private practice, including acting as counsel for a large municipal corporation where she also worked proactively with its many business units and its governing entities, both elected and administrative, as senior counsel for one of Canada’s largest insurance companies, and as an associate with a multi-national law firm. Harper-Lee is actively involved in the community. She sat on the Board of Governors of the Parks Foundation Calgary and was the Chair of the Governance Committee for the Parks Foundation Calgary for over 5 years, was a director and past Executive Committee Member (Vice-Chair) for the Better Business Bureau of Southern Alberta and East Kootenay for a decade, is a sessional instructor at a local university where she prepares course curriculums and instructs several law- and business-related courses, and is an avid volunteer with a number of registered Alberta societies. Harper-Lee received her Queen’s Counsel, now King’s Counsel, designation in 2022. Harper-Lee prides herself in knowing her clients and working with them to obtain results which work for them.

About Paul Frank

Paul Frank is an experienced trial and advocacy lawyer who has been practicing since 2003.  Paul’s practice focuses on Fire Code and Building Code matters, all types of government regulation, regulatory defence, administrative law, bankruptcy and insolvency, employment law, estate litigation, and general litigation.
After 14 years of legal practice with The City of Calgary where he was a regulatory prosecutor and the senior bankruptcy and insolvency lawyer and where he advised on governance issues, public interest matters, investigations and audits, and hired and mentored junior lawyers and articling students, Paul returned to private practice as the Senior Partner at Harper Lee Law.

Paul has conducted appeals, trials and hearings at all divisions of the Alberta Court of Justice, the Court of King’s Bench, the Alberta Court of Appeal, the Assessment Review Board, the Municipal Government Board, the Alberta Land Compensation Board, the Law Enforcement Review Board for a Public Inquiry, and the Land and Property Rights Tribunal.

In addition to practicing law, Paul is involved with politics at all levels of government and volunteers with the Calgary Food Bank and the Salvation Army, and was appointed to the Law Society of Alberta’s Finance and Audit Committee in 2022 for a 2-year term.

About Katherine Simonson

Katherine Simonson has been practicing since 2020. Her practice focuses on corporate commercial transactions, corporate commercial litigation, defamation, regulatory law, and energy law.

In addition to having her own practice, Katherine has worked both in-house and in private practice, including working with overseas firms for international clients on corporate commercial matters.
Although Katherine grew up in Calgary, she brings global experience to her practice, having completed her Bachelor of Business Administration in Michigan, USA, Master of Business Administration in Florida, USA, Juris Doctorate in Florida, USA, and Master of Laws in Norwich, England, all while competing at the university and semi-professional level in track & field and soccer. In addition to her practice, Katherine sits as Vice-President of the Calgary Women’s Soccer Association and often acts as Chairman of disciplinary hearings for CWSA, CUSA, and ASA. Katherine also competes on the international stage as a pro Hyrox athlete, having represented Team Canada and competing in two world championships thus far.

Gwenn joined Harper-Lee Law in 2023 in an administrative role, having previously worked in health care for over 35 years in Scotland and, latterly, in Calgary.

Gwenn is an avid outdoors fan and spends time kayaking, paddleboarding, and hiking with her golden retriever, Furgus.
